How to View & Update Your ABN Details Online

If you’re running a business, keeping your ABN record accurate can save you from payment delays, rejected invoices, and missed ATO notices.

The good news? You can log in to the Australian Business Register (ABR) portal in minutes to check your ABN record, print or save a free extract, and update details instantly - without a phone call or paper form.

In this article, we’ll cover:

What you can do in the ABR portal

  • View and confirm your ABN record for clients, lenders, or marketplace onboarding
  • Print or save a free ABN record extract
  • Edit your address, phone, or email as soon as something changes
  • Update your business activity code (ANZSIC) after a pivot in your business services
  • Reactivate, cancel, or transfer an ABN - all in the same dashboard

(Note: The ABR also offers a paid paper copy of your ABN details. See Paper copies of ABN details – ABR for fees and process).

Before you log in

Make sure you have:

  • myGovID on your phone
  • Your myGovID authorised in RAM for the ABN you want to manage
  • Access to the email or mobile number linked to your myGovID for the one-time security code

If you’re missing an ABN, you can register online in five minutes and return to this guide once approved.

Five-step login and update process

  1. Go to abr.gov.au and select Update your ABN details
  2. Choose myGovID, open the app, and approve the four-digit code
  3. On the summary screen, click Update ABN record
  4. Select the field to update address, contacts, or ANZSIC and business details and enter the new information
  5. Review the change and hit Submit. Most edits appear in ABN Lookup within 24 hours. You can also print or save your updated ABN record from the portal for your files.

Troubleshooting common errors

  • “You are not authorised for this ABN.”
Ask the principal authority to add your myGovID in RAM, then try again
  • Update not showing in ABN Lookup:
Clear your browser cache and wait 24 hours. If still missing, call the ABR on 13 92 26

Frequently asked questions

Is the ABR portal the same as ABN Lookup?
No. The portal is a secure editing area; ABN Lookup is public and read-only.

Can I change my sole trader ABN to a company ABN online?
No, you’ll need a brand-new ABN linked to the company’s ACN. See our guide to changing your business structure.

How long do edits take to appear publicly?
Almost all changes flow to ABN Lookup within a day

Do I have to tell the ATO separately?
No, updates in the ABR automatically sync with the ATO’s systems.

Keeping your ABN record up to date prevents payment delays, ensures important notices reach you, and keeps your details consistent across government systems. For ongoing ABN maintenance tips, see our update ABN details guide.
